Summer Skincare Tips


Temperatures are rising, the sun is shining… this can only mean one thing – summer is here! And this is a season that can take a toll on any skin type – the pollution, humidity etc all affect the quality of skin and can lead to infection as well. Oily skin gets oilier and dry skin conditions can worsen. Here are a few skincare tips that can keep your skin (and you!) cool through the heat.

Regular exfoliation is a must to keep your skin clean and prevent breakouts. Use gentle products. Not harsh scrubs on your face any body around a couple of times a week. You can use ingredients from your kitchen like oats, besan, turmeric, egg white basil, rose water, multani mitti etc or buy natural and organic scrubs with similar ingredients.

Modify your products
While you may have been using thick lotions and cream in winter, it’s time to keep those away during summer as they can end up clogging your pores. Opt for fast absorbing light lotions and serums. Ideally apply right after you shower to lock in the moisture. Water-based moisturizers work well for normal skin whereas you can opt for gel-based moisturizers for oily skin.

Don’t forget sunscreen
This a no brainer. Choose a sunscreen that offers UVA and UVB protection with a minimum SPF of 30. Apply liberally on your face and body. Apply at least 30 minutes before you head out.

Go natural
Try and use natural ingredients to keep your skin refreshed. Whether it is multani mitti or sandalwood, a spray of hydrating rose water, or lemon and tomato to remove tan! Always choose organic and natural variants. And don’t load up on the makeup. Try and keep the number of such products you use minimal and use organic or natural whenever possible. Let your skin breathe!

Stay clean
Splash water on your face 2-3 times a day to refresh and remove any dirt or sweat that builds up during this season. If you are prone to prickly heat, try and add neem leaves to your bath water.  

Eat cool
Make watermelons and cucumbers your best friends during this season! Oily, spicy food will not only make you feel sluggish, it could also adversely affect your skin. Also remember to stay hydrated – drink plenty of water, fresh fruit juices and coconut water.

Wear cool

Ditch the heavy synthetic and silk fabrics and opt for cool cottons and languid linens! They will allow your skin to breathe, go a long way in preventing sweat and body odour build up, as well as problems like prickly heat and rashes.
